Borne of Necessity was written as a tribute to the brave men who gave their lives at Gallipoli, fighting in a war not of their making,  in a country far from their homes.  They fought in conditions that were as abhorrent as they were trying, against people with whom they bore no true ill will, and through it all they grinned and bore it, creating and cementing the ideal of the ANZAC legend.

They shall not grow old,
as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them nor
the years condemn
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
