Starbucks are not slowing down - 2014 has seen the iconic and often maligned coffee brand take an impressive list of steps in new directions.
This month the company introduced mobile ordering at 152 Portland-area locations, enabling customers to place orders via the Starbucks app and pick up their drink in-store, without ever having to wait in line.
And they opened The Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle. The 15,000 square foot space is intended to be a Willy Wonka experience of coffee, with beans traveling in clear and copper tubes all around the space, letting customers watch a bean go from roast to brew to cup.
This year they also installed Duracell Powermats for wireless device charging, invested in cloud-connected brewing appliances that remember individual customers’ preferences, enabled coffee drinkers to buy Starbucks on Twitter, and allowed customers to trade in unused Starbucks gift cards for Bitcoins.
