A brilliant way of thinking about providing civic information that’s ultra useable by residents. Honolulu Answers is a simple, one-field search engine where residents can ask common questions such as “where can I see art in Honolulu’ or ‘how do I license my dog’ or 'what do I do about wild roosters’ and get simple, clear answers.

Ingeniously, they got residents themselves to populate the engine with answers in a giant 'writing bee’ where they brainstormed the most common questions residents might asked and then wrote simple answers, taking the often inconsumable and un-findable council information and presenting it comprehensibly.

This idea is explained in this excellent TED talk by Catherine Bracy on what she calls 'Civic Hacking’.
