On Sunday in Cannes, Japanese creative company Hakuhodo gave a brilliant presentation about the innovation work they do.
Three standouts. One was a beautiful insight incorporated into the work they did designing a hospital in Japan. When humans are exposed to fire, our survival instincts are heightened and we recover faster. And so around this hotel, they put fireplaces around which patients could gather.
One was a 3D printing machine they’d created with Yahoo for kids with sight impairment. ‘Hands-on Search’ made it possible for them to search any object on Yahoo and have a small version 3D printed to hold and explore. All about it here.
The third was a bookstore they created, going against an overwhelming trend against bookstores (pic top). Their’s is different. It’s called B&B and that stands for 'Books & Beer’. They serve beer and encourage drinking and reading. Their observation was simply that people get in the mood for buying more after they’ve had a drink. The store is profitable and growing. All about it here.
